Nature of being a Home Based Counselor:
This is a professional work designed to provide intensive crisis intervention services and ongoing stability to mental health clients. Work is assigned with emphasis on goals and objectives through specified interventions. Supervision is provided on an ongoing basis.

Work may be performed in diverse settings such as home, school, church, or office. With flexible hours and schedules available.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides crisis intervention services and clinical services to assigned clients.
  2. May participate in conducting and preparing a bio-psycho-socio-­cultural assessment.
  3. Provides family, individual and group counseling to clients referred to the Multicultural Clinical Center.
  4. Provides service coordination activities for clients including outreach, linkage to other services providers, and client advocacy.
  5. Prepares reports in a timely manner.
  6. Attends all meetings related to client and organizational trainings.
  7. Keeps abreast of modem evidence based clinical techniques through supervision and training.

Required General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Sufficient knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, practices and techniques in modem therapy, treatment and counseling as related to infant, child, adult and family mental health,
  2. Sufficient knowledge of case management, crisis intervention, intake, screening and assessment techniques.
  3. Some knowledge of teaching and clinical and community services,
  4. The ability to work on a team treatment, be an active team player,
  5. Be able to document interventions and progress in goal attainment.
  6. Ability to communicate, and determine proper techniques and methods for intervening in varying clinical situations,
  7. Ability to interact well with clients of other cultures.

Education and Experience

  1. Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education or Counseling from an accredited school
  2. Minimum 2 years experience working in the mental health field or related.
  3. Valid driver's license and independent transportation in addition to passing a background check.
  4. Broad knowledge of human behavior, counseling techniques and case management skills.
  5. Sensitivity to and understanding of people of diverse cultures and ability to provide cross-cultural counseling.
  6. Ability to assume individual responsibility for professional development and willingness to widen experience and keep abreast of current trends in counseling and cross-cultural issues,
  7. Preferred : Spanish or other multilingual fluency.
